Why Hillcrest
On 26 January 2025, eThekwini Municipality started a shutdown of Pipeline 53 so the pipe could be moved while SANRAL upgraded the N3. The city said restrictions would last until 22 February 2025 and listed Hillcrest among the affected areas, along with nearby places such as Crestholme, Waterfall, Kloof, Gillits, Bothas Hill, Shongweni, and Molweni. Umgeni-Uthukela Water had isolated the pipeline, which reduced flow from the DV Harris Water Treatment Plant.
